Why are Greens so important
Most are focused on macros ( macronutrients). We should not forget that micronutrients (fruit and veg), play a huge role in utilizing the activation of macronutrients (fats, carbs, proteins).
One great example of a Micronutrient is Broccoli, which is a great source of Vitamins K and C. The consumption of Broccoli has been shown to lower prostate cancer by 42%, breast cancer by 40% and lung cancer by 39% due to the antioxidant nature of the vitamins it carries.
A substantial benefit of greens is how they help the body clear toxins that can be held in fat cell reserves. This process is called detoxification which is essential in burning body fat. We come across over 500 different chemicals a day so we need to make sure our body’s’ are ready for this. I would highly recommend a consumption of at least two cups of greens per day.
The liver is an essential component in the detoxification process, so it’s important to make sure your liver is functioning properly. The fat metabolism process is controlled by the liver – it breaks down fats and produces energy, so maintaining a healthy liver can go a long way in regulating a body’s composition. Greens and in specific, Broccoli work as sulforaphane and are very powerful inducers to help clean the liver.
Some people dislike the taste of broccoli so one thing I do is consuming a flavoured supplemented greens powder mixed with water every day.
